FIGE: xXX. / Spizanotten . / from Turk: Albania, although formerly collected by Count Karl Theodor Baillet de Latour (1822-1899) (according to the back of the report) ==History==Fedor von Karacsay (1821–1912) was a Hungarian nobleman, artist and cartographer, known for his ethnographic and topographical works. Born in an aristocratic family, he received a comprehensive military education and entered the Austro-Hungarian army. In addition to his military career, he developed a passion for art and cartography and an interest in the cultures of the Balkans, especially Montenegro. Petrović-Njegoš (1813-1851), the Prince-Bishop of Montenegro, who gave him insights into the way of life and traditions of the country. Karacsay documented the Montenegrin folk culture, costumes and customs in numerous detailed drawings and watercolors. His works are regarded as valuable evidence of the ethnographic and cultural diversity of the region in the first half of the 19th century. ==References== He also produced the first comprehensive cartographic representation of Montenegro, which was of great geographical and military importance. His travels continued to Sicily and later to Persia, where he continued his artistic and documentary activities.
