During this period she also attended evening classes at Glasgow School of Art, where she studied printmaking, drawing and sculpture. She followed on from The Glasgow Girls, a group of young women artists working across Glasgow in printmaking, textile and ceramic who became elevated in the fine art scene. Frank is best known for her Art Nouveau-inspired style, with her works featuring elegant, elongated female forms. Her work was influenced by Aubrey Beardsley and Jessie King, which can be seen in her haunting, highly stylised figures. She adopted the pseudonym Al Aaraaf, taken from an Edgar Allan Poe poem about a mysterious star- which adds further intrigue her abstracted practice. Frank's stark works are imbued with a sense of uneasiness, where she employs strong contrasts and mystical imagery to create a distinctive surreal atmosphere.
