2007signed and numbered 327/500 in pencilscreenprint in colours on woveprinted by Coriander Studios, co-published by PierreOptique Ltd and Apple Corps, LondonframedARRDimensions: image 49.1 x 49.2cmNotes:The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is one of the world's most recognisable album covers. Peter Blake and his then-wife Jann Haworth constructed the set of life-size cut-outs with the band dressed up as a vibrant marching band at it's centre. Peter Blake asked the four Beatles to each compile a list of 'fans' to be made into cut-outs and found their suggestions gave him real insight into their characters, with George only suggesting Indian gurus and Ringo not making any suggestions and going with the flow. The work features icons and celebrities including Marilyn Monroe and Edgar Allan Poe, fusing high and lowbrow culture. The image won the Grammy for Best Album Cover and cements Peter Blake at the centre of British Pop Art. This screenprint was released for the 40th anniversary of the original album cover. The collage technique is emblematic of Peter Blake's work and went on to be used by numerous pop contemporaries, serving as the blueprint for a rapidly expanding British visual culture.
