Description

A pair of French Napoleon III candelabra of gilt and patinated bronze, each with a standing crane on top, five candles arms, fluted stem, bases with classic busts and the legs in the form of griffins, tripod bases with concave sides of black marble. Second half of the 19th century. H. 83 cm. (2) This model can be related to Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875), who is most famous for his animal sculptures from the 19th century. The standing crane or stork is a recovering motif in Barye's work. Literature: Michel Pletti and Alain Richaume, Barie, catalogue raisonné des sculptures, Ed. Gallimard, p. 374. Marks and scratches.
