Description
Desert landscape from Egypt with a walking Arab. Signed and dated L. T. Gizeh [?] Jan 1889. Oil on canvas. 40.5 x 60.5 cm. Presumably Lise Svanholm, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Laurits Tuxen no. 327. Provenance: Bruun Rasmussen auction 884, 2019 no. 74. In 1889, Tuxen traveled to Egypt to find new inspiration. "He journeyed out with his Painters box, which could contain wooden boards of no more than 15 x 24 cm. On these, he would paint his impressions, each of which is a will to his exuberant joy of nature. He didn't have to be successfully accountable to anyone, and with the joy of his heart he pained reflections of the unfamiliar landscapes, views that can be expected with the Impressionists' experiences of nature. The free life and the strong colours of the countryside have greatly inspired him, the method of painting has become balls." (Lise Svanholm, "Laurits Tuxen. Europe's last beacon (Laurits Tuxen. Europe's Last Painter of Princes), 1990, pp. 78-79). A few very minimal crackles.
