The design is a satire of the dreaded, sharp and satirical criticism by the young liberal writer Meïr Aron Goldschmidt (1819-1887) through his popular and sensational Copenhagen weekly 'Corsaren', which he published in 1840-46. 'Corsaren ' was Denmark's first satirious joke magazine of importance and simultaneously acted as an opposition newspaper in line with decided political magazines. The culmination of the 'rule of terror' was a dispute with Søren Kierkegaard, from which the well-known caricature of Kierkegaard originated.
In the middle of the drawing Goldschmidt with his feather is seen as a saber surrounded by people who fear him and who he has ridiculed. • Showroom: DK, Vejle
