An English lantern clock with musical mechanism in case of black painted wood, dial of gilt brass with silvered chapter ring with Arabic numerals, movement with date disposal, quarter knitting, musical mechanism with eight bells and large knitting bell. Signed Tho. Gardner, London. Mid-18th century. H. 55 cm. W. 35 cm. D. 23 cm. The clockmaker Thomas Gardner is known for his supply of lantern blocks and cracked blocks of high quality to the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the 18th century. Case and clock work initially not set. The movement in need of cleaning. Wear due to age and use. No guarantee of the function of the clock work. Later pendulum and pendulum suspension. Pendulum, key and winding key is closed.
