The original design of this type of chair is a prime example of the artistic aspirations of the Vienna Secession movement. Around 1902, the model was designed by Kolo Moser, a founding member of the Vienna Secession, and represents the effort to create a distinct Austrian style that would meet the demands of the modern bourgeoisie. To achieve the goal of modernism, the elimination of all previous elements of form was mandatory. The objects had to conform to a straightforward language and leave all historical styles behind. As part of their teaching activities at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, Kolo Moser and also Josef Hoffmann were concerted with contemporary designs for the "Flechtwerkfabrik Prag-Rudniker" which was published in 1903 in the journal "Das Interieur" were published extensively. Among them was Moser's chair and the corresponding armchair model, which is comparable to ours. By 1904, these products were so well known internationally that Unfortunately, today only a few copies of these models are preserved.
