To "Doctor Usteri in Zurich", i.e. probably the Swiss physician, botanist and liberal publicist Paul Usteri (1768-1831), in which he apologizes for his long silence with many journeys and prisons. "... I now come back from Scotland and go to Goettingen, where I will spend some time and where I hope to receive letters from you soon. Can I serve you in anything: so command; and be assured of my willingness to serve you already in advance. - I do not need to recommend the conveyer of this letter to you; it is recommended enough to tell you that it is Mr. of Jacquin from Vienna; the son of a learned one whom you, like me, treasure very high. In addition, he is my friend and can therefore make in this reckless view of all the pleasant claims you are able to afford to him ...". - It is probably the botanist Joseph Franz Freiherr von Jacquin (1766-1839), son of the Viennese botanists and chemist Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin (1727-1817), who as professor at the Vienna University and as director of their botanical Garden and the imperial gardens of Schönbrunn Palace enjoyed the highest reputation in science. - Paul Usteri had one of the world's largest collections of revolutionary publications with about 7500 brochures; it is now located in the Zurich Central Library. - Very rare, especially since Girtanner was only 40 years old.
