Extensive letter to the bookseller Brockhaus in Leipzig. First of all, it complains that his defective biographical article in Brockhaus' "Conversations-Lexikon" appeared unchanged and uncorrected. "...was certainly not according to your will, my dearest friend! Because that's why you gave me your kind word. One could have so easily composed from my biography in the 'contemporaries' a small undemanding article! That's what Hrn said. Prof. W. didn't like it. I would have wished that my works in your widely distributed works would not have been at all preferred, rather than in such a poor way would have thought ...". His rebuke, however, did not refer to the editor of the lexicon (i.e., Brockhaus), but to the publisher. On the occasion, he also complains about the haemic review of a work, "Das Jagdfest von Bebenhausen", which Matthisson also dislikes, which he prefers to dive deep into the lethe ... Friend [Therese] Huber u. Freund [Friedrich] Haug recommend himself to your benevolent memory ...". In a postscript he praises Ernst Schulze's poem "Die bezauberte Rose". "... The poem (in the newest, so well equipped Urania) ... pleasantly surprised me. I first read it in an exquisite society with the Duchess Wilhelm, where among several, also the ingenious Danecker, was quite enraged by it.
