Description

Meissner, Alfred von, German-Bohemian writer, close to Young Germany, friends with Heine in Paris, died by suicide (1822-1885). Eigh. Poem manuscript m. U. "Alfred Meissner". 1 S. Gr. 8vo. O.O. (probably around 1865). "To x x x." 6 verses of 4 lines each: "I have only ever seen thee, and I have overlaid thee with a veil, and as a fragrance with a low woe, I have played over thy bountifulness. Whether he was full of grace, yet I love him, and the veil that always appeared unto me, and virginity, of thee. ... And with thoughts, wondrous-deathing, /I think: how will that once be / When you bring the veil, girl, before your soul!" - At the top right of the name "Rudolf Glaser" overstamped "A. Meissner"; at the bottom left the date "19. ==References== Rudolf Glaser was the editor of the magazine "Ost und West". Perhaps the poem has been published in this magazine. Eigh. Letter from Meissner. 3 pp. Doublebl. Gr. 8vo. Prague 19.II.1865. - To his (not named) publisher Janke in Berlin, detailed about the plan of a continuation of his novel "Schwarzgelb" published by Janke 1862-1864. Shows great pleasure in the new conclusion of the contract with the publisher. "... In fact, I feared that you would be in two volumes, but I saw that I could not give an adult artistic organism in two books, not a book that was in relation to the first abstinence. The game will be designed in such a way that it will also be held alone, giving an interesting, self-contained novel, but the reader will be morally obliged to get to know the first abstinence (better sedated to buy). On the cover page is standing (I don't know the title yet) 'following Schw.[arzgelb]'. I will deliver the best I can deliver. Plan and idea as a whole, as I have now, seem to me very good. I will go to work with pleasure, in the hope that this will also make the first abstinence quick again. The price of the book hurt the book unwisely. It must still be done for as long as it is still time ...". - Further on the dispatch of copies of his novel "Lemberger und Sohn" published by Janke in the same year to various Austrian magazines. Finally Meissner notes: "... If my finances were better, I would come to Berlin; as it is, I hope to see you again in Prague ... Now it is said: fresh to work. 'Hand in hand with you I demand the century in the limits! ...'. - The continuation of "Schwarzgelb" was published in 1867 by Janke under the title "Babel" in four volumes. - Further 3 printed portraits of the poet.
