A variant of the portrait, also made by Merck (youngsters in identical clothes, but standing and with a collar hit), which was probably made in the same session, was used as a portrait board in its first book publication In Stahlgewittern, which appeared in Hannover in 1920 in the self-publishing house and since then has probably to be regarded as iconic in the Jünger literature. According to the supplier from whose family it comes, this photo is a personal gift of a disciple for the entrepreneur and mechanical engineer Clemens August Hegeling and his 12-year-old daughter Aenne. In 1920, Jünger was a guest at Hegeling's estate in Eitorf, where he left a lasting impression in his beautiful uniform, especially on his adoring daughter. Together with the photo, the father was also given a copy of his first specimen, which was already auctioned at the spring auction 2025 of Galerie Bassenge (A125, Lot 3177). – A little stained and rubbed, with bend marks and two mounting holes.
