Ruhmkorf, Peter. Five personal letters to a Berlin publicist, each with a stamped envelope. Hamburg 2001-2003. Mixed lot of of five, partly multi-page letters by the writer Peter Rühmkorf (1929-2008), who left behind an extensive lyrical, essayistic and journalistic work, which has been published since 2022 by the Göttingen Wallstein publishing house in the "Oevelgönner Ausgabe", which is based on 21 volumes. In 1993 the award-winning word and thought acrobat also received the Büchner Prize. Of course, Rühmkorf was one of the most striking and contentious heirs of the Enlightenment, who since the late fifties critically accompanied the history and fortunes of Germany. These letters to the Berlin publicist and author Gabriele H. Killert are remarkably personal testimonies, spontaneous and casual in diction, original and characteristic in the often snorty tone. Typically Rühmkorf, a unique phenomenon in literature. The letters in detail: 1. His letter, dated: "On his S-H-Latifundien the 28th. Dec. 2001'. 5 (one side labeled) Bl., signed with "Your P. R." About the "normal X-mas catastrophes", which prevented a rapid reaction to sent poems. In the following he expresses himself in detail and positively about "DIE GEDICHTE" ("metaphorically adventurously erknospend", "VIELES: to the eyes + going violently to the ears") and the "beautiful" visit in Hamburg. Then: "want sparkling New Year's Eve and well underway New Year", at the very end some sentences about his working conditions: "Practically my work expenses cannot be financed without entering a patron + if one is not constantly on axis, the writing room can not be held at all". - With own addressed envelope. - Included a room-certificate and a note with a note from P.R. 2. ==References====External links== Corrections, dated: Hamburg, 4. Corrections, dated: Hamburg, 20.2.2002. 2 Bl., with handwritten greeting and small drawing, signed with "Your Peter R." "Had wanted to write right after our last phoneo, but then Frau Sorge came in here in several figures, darkly clouded and followed by bat swarms, now the sky again reasonably lighted and practically first letter writing day after quite hopeless sagging in among others TABU contests." Corrections, dated: Hamburg, 26.2.2002. 1 Bl., with handwritten greeting and small portrait drawing "Very warmly greets and kisses the exquisite hand again your Peter R." About a review by G. H. Killert: "It's not the praise alone, which does well, but the lead that is absolutely devoid of the review standard." - About Sinclair Lewis: "Lord's heaven, he could write, cuttingly-grazed, and with everything really condensed Aha content even so seemingly lame." - With his own hand addressed envelope. 5. Self-handed letter, dated Roseburg, 24.12.2003. 6 Bl. Signed with "Your devoted and otherwise so signal guest Peter Rühmkorf". "Silent night, healing night, shop closed, closed, and friends silently thought ...". With comments about F. W. Bernstein and a review of the recipient ("Now to your Rezi"), then about his living conditions, where he has "no shipping lexicon at hand, no Lower German dictionary, no smart + no Goetze, no Ploetz, no 'Manual of Heraldik + Ornaments', no Benn, no Brecht, no Brehm - none at all of the books read in the early 70s with their numerous Crossings + Remarkability shortcuts" - and his obligations, "against which I cannot argue from the considerable mountain of debt" and the difficulties of getting "The Time" delivered to the country. With the remark at the end: "Correction (of the letter) is no longer read. What it says, is + what it is, + is me in 5 minutes too." - A white paper napkin, on which Rühmkorf noted his address ("P.R. Övelgönne 50 22605 HH). – All letters folded, in very good condition.
