After studying at the Staatliche Kunstschule near Tappert and Bernhard Hasler, Ausleger was a member of the November group involved in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. In the 1920s he eventually oriented himself to synthetic cubism, which influenced him strongly until the late years. Still life belonged to Ausleger's preferred subjects.
