Published in a small edition in the legendary Cologne gallery Der Spiegel. Trier (1915-1999) lithographed the enigmatic, enormously interpretative text of Lessing's fable in several colours, motivating it freely with pictorial elements, and created six almost leaf-sized illustrations, also in color lithography: "Tiresias took his staff and crossed the field. His way carried him through a holy grove, and in the midst of the grove where three paths crossed each other, he became aware of a pair of snakes that were mated. Then Tireziah lifted up his staff, and struck among the serpents in love. As the staff sank upon the serpents, Tireziah became a woman. After nine months the woman of Tireziah went through the holy grove again; and in the same place where the three paths crossed each other, she became aware of a pair of serpents fighting with one another. And Tireziah lifted up her staff again, and smote among the ravened serpents, and--O wonders! As the staff separated the fighting snakes, Tireziah's wife became a man again." – Right lower corner with minimal curvature marks; a clean and well-preserved specimen. - Very rare.
