He approached photography as an interested layman and quickly developed into one of the most influential mediators in this field. During the war he served as a staff doctor and from 1943 as a lecturer in the General Staff of the Army in Berlin. Despite his membership in the NSDAP (politically relieved after the end of the war), he became a professor without formal education or recognised degree. This marked the beginning of his second career and vocation. Through his introduction of subjective photography, he influenced German post-war photography in a sustainable way, and these influences are perceptible to the present day. – Vol. 2 resolutions patchy, otherwise good, Exemplary.
