In his work, he drew inspiration from the pottery traditions of Vilnius. His vases and bowls are distinguished by their characteristic painted decoration. The surface of this particular vessel is fully covered with ornamental compositions. To create his decoration, Jan Limont used a technique known as combing. On a freshly made vessel, he painted several bands encircling the vessel and then drew a special comb made from a strip of hard rubber through them. This process caused the pigments of the individual colored bands to blend and interpenetrate.
