Artist: Eitel Klein (1906-1990) Title: Warmenhuizen Holland Technique: Oil Painting on Cardboard Signature: signed and dated at the bottom right, signed at the back of the village, dated 1974 and signed Dimensions in cm approx.: 65 x 86/ 50 x 70 Biography: Eitel Klein (1906 Hörlbach near Ellingen-1990 Nürnberg) was the son of the village school teacher of Hörl Bach. In 1922 he moved his residence with his family to Nuremberg. From 1924 Eitel Klein studied ornament drawing and commercial graphics at the Kunstgewerbeschule Nürnberg. This was followed in 1929 by a painting study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Karl Caspar. After completing his studies, Klein worked freelance in Nuremberg and exhibited at the "Francische Galerie". Starting in 1937, Klein dealt with fresco painting and the subject of "art at construction" - he was commissioned in the same year to create a fresco on the town hall facade in Hersbruck. In 1940, Eitel was called to the Wehrmacht and was imprisoned in 1944, from which he was released only in 1950. After his return to Nuremberg, he received many commissions on the subject of "Art at Construction". In 1951 Klein became a member of the artists' association "Der Kreis" in Nuremberg, he built his own studio house in the garden of the parents' house. Artisticly, he turned to the colourful tempera painting and participated in exhibitions at the Haus der Kunst in Munich as well as in Nuremberg and Bayreuth. In the final phase of his work he bought his own printing press in 1974 and again concentrated on graphics and drawing.
