Artist: Georg Weidenbacher (1905-1984) Title: Portrait of a woman, orange dress Technique: Pastel Signature: sign. Bottom right & date. 1981 Dimensions in cm approx.: 37 x 52 Biography: Georg Weidenbacher (1905 Nördlingen – 1984 Fürth) belongs to the lost generation of expressive realists. 1923-1928 Studied at the Nürnberger Kunstgewerbeschule, master student of Hermann Gradl. In 1928 Weidenbacher worked as an industrial designer, 1929-1945 as a freelance painter. 1932 Dürer Prize winner. 1946-1973 Teacher at the vocational secondary school in Nuremberg. Founding member of the artists' associations "Der Kreis" (The Circle), the Erlangen Art Association, when it was founded after the war and the "Freie Gruppe" (Free Group). In 1971 Georg Weidenbacher received the Federal Cross of Merit. He participated in numerous regional and national exhibitions from 1935 to 1975. The artistic estate was bequeathed to his hometown of Fürth. In 1994 - only ten years after the death of the artist - a memorial exhibition could be realized at the Palais Sutterheim in Erlangen.
