Description
This beautifully carved English oak Misericord carved entirely from a single piece of oak.
The depiction shows "Christ the Gardener" after his resurrection. Unusually to his true left is Mary Magdalen kneeling in prayer, above her is located The Church of the Holy Sepulchre on the Hill of Golgotha, representing the site of Christs death, burial and resurrection. The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove is shown flying out from the church. To the true right shows a figure plucking an apple from The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, with an ox to the opposite side of the tree.
This English Medieval oak Misericord is an exceptional example.
25.4 cm high
34.3 cm wide
17.8 cm deep.
Condition: Great colour and patina. Small crack to the bottom of one of the figures on the left-hand side and the tree. General marks and wear.
