Description
the cupboard initialled WBM and dated 1683 with an unusual rear door, the top section breaks away into a recessed tier typical of "press" variants. It features a heavily moulded cornice atop a frieze carved with traditional scrolling strapwork motifs. The central panel showcases intricate Celtic-inspired geometric hatch work and interlacing knot patterns, flanked by two small cupboard doors, the multi-panel base incorporates a multi-tiered arrangement of larger, recessed panel doors with turned peg handles, providing deep storage over stout stile feet, 194cm wide 170cm high 67cm deep
Provenance- High Hall Appletreewick in the North Yorkshire dales.
Condition: Pediment is slightly detached to the top left corner, split to one panel, one loose piece of timber to one back panel, good colour and patina, some losses to the feet commensurate with age, old woodworm.
