Description
Kolonn turns its gaze eastward once again, presenting a themed auction of art and decorative arts with a focus on China and Japan—a collection where antique objects meet modern artistic expression. Porcelain, textiles, and metalwork come together in a selection characterised by a rich diversity of materials, eras, and styles. Chinese "white gold"—porcelain—takes center stage, spanning from the 17th century to the modern era. The lots include high-quality porcelain as well as an exquisite silk embroidery from the Qing Dynasty. The textile selection also features a kesa (monk’s robe) from the Edo period, alongside a Tibetan pyramid-shaped chest—both representing more unusual finds. From Japan, the auction presents tsuba (sword guards) from the Edo period, as well as woodblock prints by Hiroshige, whose iconic landscapes capture the essence of Japanese visual language. These historical pieces are complemented by modern Japanese graphic works, including creations by Yoshida and Migata—demonstrating how the tradition of the classic woodblock print lives on and evolves into new forms of expression. It is a collection where the familiar meets the unexpected—from the intricate decorations and glazes of Chinese porcelain to the clean lines of Japanese graphic art and the rich detail found in the textile works.Show more
