Quaker interestSparshall (Hannah Maria) Two fine papercuts of butterflies, splitting to body of one, with ms note to mount: ‘presented by Hannah Maria Boulter 1906,’ and earlier Yarmouth address and seal to cover.***Hannah Maria Sparshall was born c. 1752 in Norfolk, daughter of Quaker Grocer and Naturalist Joseph Sparshall and Katherine Peckover. Daniel Boulter, a local merchant, opened the Boulter Museum of curiosities in Great Yarmouth, in 1778. Hannah Maria donated a papercut of a parrot, whilst Joseph gave a 'Norfolk plover or thick-knee'd bustard', and Edmund Sparshall gave items from Botany Bay. Literature: Museum Boulterianum.
