Boxing postcardsA collection of 20, depicting famous boxing fights of the 1900s to the 1920s, including two postcards from the Gans-Nelson fight in Goldfield, Nevada in 1906the Gans Nelson postcards commemorate the lightweight championship fight between Joe Gans and Oscar ‘Battling’ Nelson, in the 42nd round Nelson hit Gans with a low-blow that was ruled a foul, and Gans was declared winner by disqualification, one postcard has a light fold down the middle, and the other has a lightly folded right corner, printed by Ben Michaels; the remainder of the collection includes a printed postcard of Russia and Japan fighting as boxers, political propaganda for the Russo-Japanese war from 1904, a postcard of French boxer Georges Carpentier (right), wearing a French tricolor sash around his waist, having knocked out German Kaiser "Bill" Wilhelm II whose boxing shorts are the colours of the German Imperial flag, with the flags of the major Allied forces of Belgium, England, France and Russia, in the upper left-hand corner, and a postcard of Jas J.
