Raj period. Comprising a teapot, a milk jug, and a covered twin handled sugar bowl. Each of compressed circular form upon a spreading circular foot, the teapot with a spout formed as an elephant’s head opposite a handle formed as an elephant’s head fitted with ivory insulators, leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a finial formed as Vishnu upon a caparisoned elephant, repeated to the sugar bowl lid. The sugar bowl with handles formed the same, the milk jug with the handle formed the same opposite a spout modelled as a yali head. The teapot with embossed and chased decoration in swami pattern in the Madras style of gods upon their vahana; Indra upon an Elephant, Karktikeya upon a peacock with serpent, Durga upon a tiger, Kalki upon a horse, Shiva upon Nandi the bull, Ganesha upon a rat/mouse (Mushika), Agni upon a ram, Kirshna upon a cow, the sugar bowl with many of the same in addition with Parvati upon a lion. The milk jug with seated deities including Ganesha, and Prithvi. All within architraves interspersed with pilasters against a textured ground with chased anthemion borders. The lid with circular vignettes deities reserved with foliate scrolls. Traces of satinised decoration throughout plain areas. The milk and sugar with gilt interiors. Each stamped underneath. Bhicajee. Satinised plain areas are a distinctive characteristic of Bangalore made silverware, this decorative technique is particularly susceptible to wearing away.
