Engraved underneath with contemporaneous initials H over F A in Roman script, all above a rosette flamed cross. Fully marked to the right of handle. Gill (1978) a hanbook of Newcastle silver Notes:John Younghusband, son of Thomas Younghusband of Budle, Northumberland. Apprenticed to John Ramsey for seven years from 15 July 1699. Steward of the associated company 1707 and 1714, warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company six times. John Ramsey, his master, died in 1702, where Younghusband married his widow Elizabeth and took over his former master’s business. His freedom of the company was granted 7 October 1706 and was fined for being married and for having a child before his freedom. His burial was 24th November 1718 and was attended by the Goldsmiths Company with the noted exception of Francis Batty II who was fined one shilling for his absence as “taking Physick … not Excussed”. Younghusband died intestate and indebted, he was approximately 33 years old and survived by his second wife and his children including John Younghusband II, who was apprenticed to James Kirkup on the 18th November 1724.
