Mostly from the "loud, wet, grey Berlin" to a friendly family in Baden, to which he sends greetings, short messages and orders. A letter from the 29.VII.1964 comes from a trip to Africa: "... whether the letter ever arrives, I do not know, because mail is a lucky thing here and can disappear as quickly as a mouse in her hole. The heat is big, it's stuffy, moist and never fresh. You drink thin beer and palm wine and eat insanely peppered rice dishes. If it's raining, then it'll be a lot of fun. Here are markets, as big as all of Lörrach, the primeval forests are teeming with mosquitoes. The snails are as big as small cats, the butterflies as books ...". - A Christmas letter contains a self-caricature in pen drawing. - The unsigned aquarelled pen drawings show southern German villages: a village near Freiburg, the chapel in Bötzingen (date 1948) and Oberschaffhausen from the bird's eye view. The very conventionally designed pretty Veduts, if attributed to Meckel, are probably from the early days of the artist.
