Two-part, exceptionally extensive and magnificently illustrated masterbook, which was richly filled in the university cities of Jena and Wittenberg. The first part is run almost exclusively in Jena from 1773 to 1776, with some detours to Leipzig. Then follow 8 sheets of total registers, and the second part begins with the year 1777, which lasts until 1786 and plays almost completely in Wittenberg, 1786 finally also in Nordhausen. The contributors are mostly fellow students, especially law and medicine students, who, as usual, indicate their origin and often their subject. The most prominent of the contributors at that time today is the versatile writer and friend of Goethe, Carl Philipp Moritz, author of the "Anton Reiser", who enrolled in Erfurt in 1776 for a study of theology. In 1778 he moved to Berlin, where he became a teacher at the Gymnasium and became a Grauen Kloster. Moritz writes: "We want to drown the worries of life, and not a happy present bitter for us through hard-hearted thoughts of the days of the future." Autographs by Carl Philipp Moritz are of the greatest rarity. - Another contributor from the Goethe circle is the famous silhouetter Johann Friedrich Anthing, whose collection also contains a Goethe portrait (Jena 25). Okay. 1774). - A further personality from the Goethe circle wears itself on the 26th century. In 1774, he was appointed as a member of the Ilmenau Mines Council and Head of Ilmnau Mines by Goethe. A G.P. H. Lenz (Jena 1774) could be the notorious alchemist of the same name. The main attraction of the album is 11 full-page Veduts, painted in strong colours, with diverse staffings of students and other citizens, four of them with many-figure games and celebrations of the academic youth in public places, partly highly romantic with moonlight. The paintings are usually petitely described or commented on by the artist, so that they are also of high value to topographical and local history. Shown are Ketschau; Jena (with student play at days); Jena in front of the city (with students who give of themselves fleeting sayings); Zwetzen; Borstendorf; Jena (nocturnal student game, called "The funny moustache bataille because of extinguishing the fire bey the fidelitet"); Jena (total view "from midnight" with Lobeda and Leuchtenburg in the background); Country houses in the vicinity of Jena; Dorndorf with Dornburg; nocturnal student game ("Creirung des Burgau-Müllers") and the Lawnmühle near Jena. Also nice domestic scenes, several scenes with soldiers (a rider saves [?] a woman from her upbringing horse) and a quodlibet with illustrated playing cards. In 1773, a medical student Johann Friedrich Christian Eggert paints a two-coloured picture in professional quality with a young man who is terrified when a winged amor shows him a newborn baby whose mother looks around the corner in the back. The saying: "No sword, no pedell, no weather, storm or wind, / Shrecks a purchase like only a virgin child." Another table shows a law student in his room while studying weighty works. - Stronger signs of use: the rear inner joint bursts; there is no Bl. 1 and perhaps some more pages (the handwritten. Pagination is incomplete and faulty), the final sheet loose and defective, the beautiful Veduts partly somewhat damaged (one with stronger color loss), a board damaged and old repaired, especially in the first part abundant finger marks. - Despite these conservation defects a precious root book from the literary epoch of the storm and urge, which not only exceptionally interesting illustrations with the entry of Carl Philipp Moritz one of the rarest autographs of German classical music.
