Nees von Esenbeck (1776-1858) in Germany, whom he addresses as his "theuren Freund und Gönner". Extensive, important and valuable letter, in which young chicken reports in detail about his activities since 1844: the exploration of Ostjavas, the reference of a "single house" at the "North slope of Mount Unggarang" and his botanical collecting activity. This year the first of Junghuhn's main works was published: "Topographic and scientific journeys through Java" (Magdeburg 1845, edited by Nees van Esenback), and the researcher asks for supporting copies: "... I wait with longing for later news of you and for the arrival of some copies of my travels - whose finite publication I have heard in a public paper". He then dedicates the wide space of the letter to the treatment and future of his scientific collections. The drawings, which would not be published, he asks back: "... Because if they are not otherwise usable, after all, their sight will give me some pleasure in later years ... You know that my herbarium, which is in your hands, has cost me some trouble and also some expenses. I have gladly comforted him, in the hope of giving you some joy and the benefit of science with these plants. - But I would also like to have something myself when I come back to Germany, and to rejoice in later days at my collected, so to see the possession of my herbarium secure for me ...".
