Röhricht 1607. Tobler p. 140. – First English edition. Badia probably worked as a secret agent for the Spanish government under the assumed name Ali Bey el Abassi. As an Arab, he was able to visit numerous places that were usually denied to the Christian, so that he could provide the first description of Mecca from an occidental point of view. He also described the mosque of Omar in Jerusalem as well as many hitherto unknown aspects of Islam. His travels took him across North Africa to Egypt, Cyprus, on a pilgrimage to Mecca and back to Spain via Jerusalem, Damascus and Constantinople. The large folding boards, mostly according to his designs, show views of Mecca, Medina and Cyprus. – The two preliminary titles are probably missing. Some patchy, otherwise well preserved specimen from an English nobility library, with corresponding stinged coat of arms exlibris ("Baron Northwick") on the interior mirror.
