Pahlavi dynasty. Of globular form upon a short cylindrical foot, with an everted cylindrical neck. The body with engraved ghalam zani vignettes of four seated or kneeling figures, one a woman playing the barbat, another a women with a long-necked bottle and a cup before a bird, another with a man with a long-necked bottle and a bowl of dates, and the fourth a kneeling man with a book, a mosque in the background, interspersed with scroll arabesques. All reserved with chased monbbat-kuri decoration of various goats, dogs, geese, and rabbits all with foliage. Marked underneath with retailer’s mark مارتين MADE IN PERSIA, and 84. Height - 16.7 cm / 6.55 inches Weight – 968 grams / 31.12 oztNotes:There are two marks associated with this firm, one as on this vase in Farsi, the other stamped MARTINS TEHRAN. The English mark is seen on Isfahan type engraved pieces in a style from circa 1930 whereas the Farsi mark, is associated with post-1940 Isfahan work. The firm of Martins was likely run by a European, probably French or German. The brothers Abdollah and Ebrahim Dayizadeh are regarded as the finest engravers of the Pahlavi era, alongside Lahiji. A cocktail shaker marked the same, and with closely comparable engraved panels of figures with the engraving attributed to Daeizadeh was sold these rooms, 22 June 2022, lot 283 (£2375 incl. prem).
