Description
A Danish Baroque silver wedding spoon, straight handle including top and bottom with gilded cherubs, nearly circular bowl and the reverse engraved with foliage including a heart with initials and date "JKSB MWD 1764", the reverse of the handle later pin-pricked "DGS ACB". Maker Johan Jagenreuter, Copenhagen 1764. Weight 47 g. L. 18.5 cm.
The first set of initials stands for Isbrandt KorneliSen Bacher (1724–1783) and Martjen WillemsDatter (1717–1784), who were married in Store Magleby Church on Amager on 2 April 1764. Isbrandt Kornelisen Bacher was born on the farm "Hollandsminde", Nordre Kinkelgade 34 in Store Magleby, and Martjen Willemsdatter was born on the farm "Dobbeltgaard", Hovedgaden 11 in Store Magleby. This village on Amager was previously called "Hollænderbyen" (the Dutch Village) owing to its Dutch immigration in 1521.
The initials "DGS ACB" relate probably to younger family members with connection to "Dobbeltgaard". See also present online auction 2645, lot no. 9055.
Mentioned and illustrated: Martin Hans Borg, "Fra Amagers private skatkammer. En særudstilling i anledning af Amagermuseets 100-årsjubilæum", Store Magleby 2022, pp. 68–69.
Provenance: Descendants of Isbrandt Kornelisen Bacher and Martjen Willemsdatter to the present day.
Minimal and natural patina related to age and use, including a few small and minor surface scratches and marks.
