Provenance Auction house Rempex, May 2016 private collection, Warsaw More information Jan Szancenbach, a faithful formula of colorism developed in Eugeniusz Eibisch's studio, represented the colour current of postwar Krakow. As the heir of the first generation of Polish colorists, he thought carefully about the intimate subject, which is an excuse for rich color solutions. Szancenbach's landscapes are compositions painted with momentum and temperament, maintained on the border of abstraction, distinguished by extraordinary colors. In the picture presented in the series of the Morskie Eye, you can see the invoicing, oppositional colors of the Cintobra with saturated blues. This summary is a hallmark of Szancenbach's works, highlighting not only the expression of the composition, but also its specific sound. The colors obtained here shine with the fullness of their autonomous value. Szancenbach's paintings are firmly embedded in the tradition of picturalism, as evidenced by his excellent workshop and the resulting depth of expression. The artist boldly postulates himself as a follower of the great tradition he has developed creatively. At the same time, it remained consistent in the picture of harmony between painting matter and the visible world. The presented Grey Day was created at the peak of the period of the most famous and associated with the artist's name of the paintings. These compositions allow to celebrate the beauty of fragile, transient life and constantly reborn nature. Images full of life and light have given Szancenbach special recognition in over 400 exhibitions in Poland, Great Britain, Austria, Sweden, Germany and Japan.
