Description

Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod | 2004 Highlights: – 1,130 cc V-twin engine, Harley-Davidson Revolution – 18,500 km on the odometer – 100th Anniversary 1903-2003 badging on tank and fenders – Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde switchable exhaust system – Fitted with hard saddlebags and passenger backrest The private seller offers for sale this 2004 Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod, powered by a 1,130 cc V-twin engine. Finished in the signature anodised silver and brushed aluminium that made the V-Rod an instant icon, this example carries the winged 1903-2003 100th Anniversary emblems that mark it out as part of Harley-Davidson’s centenary era. With 18,500 km on the odometer, it has covered a modest distance for its age and presents in good condition throughout the photographs. Its most talked-about feature is the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system, which allows the rider to switch the sound character at the push of a button, from a civilised tone for everyday riding to a far more assertive voice when the mood calls for it. The seller has further personalised the motorcycle with colour-matched hard saddlebags, a passenger backrest, a dual seat embossed with the V-Rod logo, chrome finned grips and a handlebar-mounted clock, turning the bold power cruiser into a machine that is as suited to a weekend tour as it is to a short ride into town. A valid inspection is in place according to the seller. When the V-Rod was unveiled in 2001 for the 2002 model year, it marked the most radical departure in Harley-Davidson’s history. Developed with input from Porsche Engineering, its Revolution engine was the first liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, double overhead cam V-twin ever fitted to a production Harley-Davidson, laid out at 60 degrees rather than the traditional 45 and derived from the factory’s VR1000 superbike racing programme. The result revved freely to beyond 9,000 rpm and delivered around 115 hp, performance that had never before been associated with the Milwaukee name. Wrapped around it was an equally daring design: a hydroformed perimeter frame, a long and low drag-style stance, disc wheels, a fuel tank hidden beneath the seat and the distinctive airbox cover where a tank would normally be. The VRSCA was the pure original, the model that launched an entire family of V-Rod variants over the following fifteen years, and early silver examples with their clean, sculptural lines remain the most recognisable expression of the concept. Today the first-generation V-Rod is increasingly appreciated as a modern classic, a landmark machine that combines genuine performance with unmistakable presence.
