Footnote - Emperor Jimmu (711 BC – 585 BC), According to traditional Japanese mythology and early historical chronicles such as the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, Emperor Jimmu was the legendary first Emperor of Japan and founder of the Imperial Dynasty. A direct descendant of the sun goddess Amaterasu and the storm god Susanoo, he is celebrated for leading a military expedition from Kyushu to conquer the Yamato region, establishing the Japanese throne in 660 BC. In Japanese sculpture, painting, and bronze decorative art, he is often portrayed as a majestic warrior wearing ancient armor, carrying a bow, and accompanied by the Yatagarasu—the sacred three-legged crow sent by the gods to guide him.
