The private seller offers for sale this 1961 Porsche 356 B, powered by a 1582 cc air-cooled flat-four petrol engine producing around 60 hp, paired with a manual transmission. The 356 B was introduced in 1959 as the second major evolution of the car that launched the Porsche name, bringing higher bumpers, a more prominent headlamp position and numerous mechanical refinements. The T6 body style, introduced for the 1962 model year, brought a larger rear window, twin engine lid grilles and an external fuel filler flap, and the Coupé remains one of the most recognisable and sought-after shapes in sports car history.
According to the seller, this 356 B was first sold by Johnson Pacific in Oakland, California, in 1962 and remained in the United States until 1988, when it was shipped to Europe. It was then kept in Germany by a long-term owner before the current family acquired it in 2022, since when it has been part of their collection in Bucharest. The car is finished in Champagne Yellow, and the seller notes that the paintwork shows consistent ageing and patina. An older repaint is believed to have been partial, although its extent is not documented. Panel fit and shut lines are described as well preserved, and the interior retains its original materials and components with age-related wear and has not been retrimmed. A period-style luggage rack is fitted to the engine lid, and ceramic paint protection has been applied.
The seller reports that the ignition system has been revised and that both Zenith carburettors have been fully restored. The electrical system was converted to 12 volts during a previous ownership, and TÜV documentation for this conversion is available. The car has been maintained without a full mechanical strip-down. The history file is extensive and includes the original purchase invoice, shipping documentation, service book, owner’s manual, maintenance invoices, Becker radio documentation and a FIVA card. The Porsche took part in the 2023 Sinaia Concours d’Elegance, where it received recognition in the Porsche 75 category. Additional photographs, underside images and videos are available from the seller. This is a preserved classic with documented history and visible patina, rather than a recently restored example, and it will appeal to those who value originality and provenance.
