The private seller offers for sale this 1952 Opel Olympia, powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. The Olympia was Opel’s compact family car, a name that dates back to 1935 and returned after the war in 1947. For the early 1950s the model received a more modern look, with a broad chrome grille, prominent headlights and wider bumpers, and it remained a familiar sight on German roads until it was succeeded by the Olympia Rekord in 1953.
This example is a two-door coach finished in a bright blue that suits the rounded post-war lines. The large chrome grille, the bumpers and the chrome trim strips give the front end its characteristic look, and fog lamps in yellow have been added below the headlights. At the rear a luggage rack carries a period suitcase, which adds to the period atmosphere. The wide whitewall tyres complete the picture.
The cabin is trimmed in cream tones, with a full-width bench seat at the front and a bench at the back, a large cream steering wheel and a neat period dashboard with round instruments. The engine bay shows a four-cylinder engine with a striking red air filter and valve cover, with the spare wheel and luggage in the boot.
The seller notes that a few small things still need doing to make the car perfect: the odometer has recently stopped working, and window rubbers need to be fitted. For a collector who enjoys a straightforward, charming classic with a lot of personality, this Olympia offers an appealing way to enter the world of early post-war Opels.
