The Battle of Mogersdorf, also known as the Battle of St. Gotthard, was the most significant engagement of the Turkish War of 1663–1664. It took place on August 1, 1664, along the Raab River between Mogersdorf (now in Austria) and the Cistercian monastery of Szentgotthárd (St. Gotthard, now in Hungary) in Burgenland. The Imperial Army, led by Count Raimondo Montecuccoli and Field Marshal Leopold Wilhelm von Baden-Baden, succeeded in halting the main Ottoman force, which, under the command of Grand Vizier Köprülü Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha, was marching toward Vienna. The battle was one of the four major open-field battles of the Turkish Wars.
