ARCID A D B - C C C T 1659 Crowned double-headed eagle with oval divided shield of arms on the breast, draped with the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Between the eagles' heads, the Imperial Orb, the shield of arms of Austria/Burgundy with the Archducal coronet below. F. 262; Hahn 35b note; Herinek 84
Very rare. Traces of mounting, two small scratches on obverse, otherwise extremely fine
Herinek and Hahn describe the coin as a gold strike from the half-taler dies. However, this silver coin is not known. There is good reason to believe that this obverse die, featuring the small bust, was used exclusively to strike gold coins (in denominations of 4 and 5 ducats). Two reverse variants are known for the 5-ducat coins of 1659. In addition to the coin offered here, there is also a die without the Imperial Orb and the Jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
Please find here the video of the coin
