Provenance: Bt H.D. Rauch September 2003.
The Civil, or Napoléonic, Code, established on 21 March 1804, gave all male citizens equal rights, ended feudal privileges and protected private property and wealth. A copy of the statue of Napoléon, by Antoine-Denis Chaudet (1763-1810), is currently in the ballroom of the Château de Compiègne. The statue of Minerva de Velletri, dated to the 1st century AD, was found at the end of the 18th century in a vineyard in Velletri, near some ruins of a Roman villa. Captured by French troops, it arrived in Paris on 7 December 1803 and is now in the Louvre
