The Augsburg Confession was presented on 25 June 1530, at the Diet of Augsburg. It became one of the foundational statements of Lutheran faith. It was primarily composed by Philipp Melanchthon and based on the teachings of Martin Luther. It consists of 28 articles, which explain Lutheran beliefs and address points of disagreement with the Roman Catholic Church.
This anniversary was especially significant because it occurred during the Thirty Years’ War, when Lutheranism was under considerable political and military pressure.
