The professional seller offers for sale this 1957 Citroën HY, powered by a 1.9-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission. Finished in a cheerful combination of orange and cream, this HY has been set up as a charming mobile shop, with a hinged serving hatch in the left-hand side panel and hand-painted bee artwork on the flanks.
Few light commercial vehicles are as instantly recognisable as the Citroën HY. Introduced in 1947 as the successor to the TUB, it was built in Aulnay-sous-Bois until 1981 and sold in huge numbers as a delivery van, ambulance, bakery and market truck. Its corrugated sheet-steel body, a lightweight and inexpensive way to build a strong, rigid shell, gives the HY its unmistakable look, while the front-wheel-drive layout and the flat, low load floor made it exceptionally practical. The 1911 cc four-cylinder engine is derived from the one used in the Traction Avant, which made it simple and easy to maintain.
This example has a bright cab with cream-painted metalwork, a simple dashboard with a large steering wheel and brown leatherette seating. The rear compartment has a wooden floor and wooden side lining with a counter shelf, together with a bench along one side, and the double rear doors open wide for easy access. Today the HY is a favourite at food markets, festivals and events, and it would equally suit a collector looking for an eye-catching period Citroën.
