Description

Highlights: – 6750 cc V8 engine, petrol, automatic transmission – Silver Shadow II, the 1977 update with rack-and-pinion steering and a front air dam – Dark green paintwork with a cream leather interior and burr walnut veneer – Spanish historic vehicle registration – Fitted with air conditioning and a period radio The private seller offers for sale this 1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, powered by a 6750 cc V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. This example is finished in dark green with a cream leather interior, and the dashboard, door cappings and picnic tables behind the front seats are trimmed in polished burr walnut, just as one expects from a Rolls-Royce of this era. The car carries Spanish historic registration plates. The Silver Shadow was introduced in 1965 as the first Rolls-Royce with a unitary construction body and all-round independent suspension with hydraulic self-levelling, a radical step for the marque. It became the best-selling Rolls-Royce of its time, with more than 30,000 built across the Shadow and Silver Shadow II. In 1977 the Silver Shadow II brought significant refinements: rack-and-pinion steering, improved suspension geometry, a revised dashboard with an updated ventilation system and split-level air conditioning, and the distinctive deformable rubber front bumper with integrated air dam. Power comes from the well-known 6.75-litre aluminium V8, mated to an automatic gearbox for effortless, near-silent progress. Under the bonnet the twin SU carburettors and the hydraulic accumulator spheres of the high-pressure system are clearly visible. Inside, the rear bench, the folding picnic tables and the deep pile carpets with rubber overmats are all present, together with the original Jaeger instruments and a cassette radio. For anyone looking for a dignified, comfortable and genuinely British luxury saloon from the late 1970s, this Silver Shadow II offers an appealing way into Rolls-Royce ownership.
