He was an important artist, the Polish painter of the Munich School, in the 19th century. ==References== The artist visited the academies in Warsaw, Dresden and Prague in his early days. In 1873 he moved to Munich, where he studied under his compatriot Józef Brandt at the Academy there. He settled permanently in the city of Isar. Through the influence of Brandt, he approached the circle of the Munich-Poland and later became their most prominent protagonist. In 1890 he was appointed professor at the Munich Academy. During his time as a painter, Alfred von Wierusz-Kowalski received numerous awards and prizes for his magnificent paintings with depictions of Russian-Polish folk life. In this characteristic gem Wierusz-Kowalski impressively demonstrates his mastery in reproduction and movement.
