The Schaffhausen physician and anatomist Johann Jakob Wepfer (1620-1695) "was one of the most distinguished physicians of the 17th century. ==References== He had a significant experimental talent. This proves his famous toxicological writing entitled 'Cicutae aquaticae historia et noxae' (Basel 1679, 1716; Leyden 1733; Venice 1759), in which he reproduces the results of his studies with the Schierling and various other poisonous plants on animals. Wepfer has also gained a name in the history of medicine through excellent pathological-anatomical research. In this respect, his dignified writing on the flow of stroke deserves to be mentioned, in which not only good information on the anatomy of the brain, especially of the vascular system of the same, but also valuable pathological-anatomical remarks can be found, e.g., the information on scarring of apoplectic cysts, which he first produced (ADB). – The frontispiece is missing.
