Gersaint (1694-1750) is considered "one of the best known art dealers of the eighteenth century" (shoe) and presents his first catalogue here. On pages 62 to 137 he describes partly with detailed annotations 450 mussels. He had bought them in the early 1930s on an extended trip to Holland and offered them here for purchase. A "Catalogue de differents reptiles, Insectes, & autres animaux" (132 positions) follows on pages 139 to 160. He enriched his catalogue with an introduction to conchology, a list of the most important naturalist cabinets in France and Holland, and an annotated bibliography of the main works on the subject. – Uncircumcised.
