Eduard Hartstein (1823-1869) had been a teacher of agriculture at the educational institution in Poppelsdorf since 1846, and since 1856 was its director. Between 1851 and 1854 he travelled to England three times and has since been in extensive contact with farmers there. In part 1 he treats fertilization with liquid farm fertiliser, bone, soda-salpeter, Peruvian guano and clay burning. Abbot. 2 on the deep culture of the soil and the exstirpator used.
