Eckhardt (ca. 1740-1812) was a well-known hydraulic engineer at the time, who presented one of his inventions, a sloping water wheel. With this water was "pumped up" from channels to support the drying of the country. The text contains comparative studies with "normal" water wheels. Among the supplements are excerpts from Memoranden about Eckhardt's invention, among others from the important hydraulic engineer C. Brunings (Brünings), mathematician B. J. Douwes and Aeneae. Contributions from M. van Marum, J. N. S. Allamand, J. Rennie & C. Brunings jun., which were written only after 1778. F. J. Eckhardt was the brother of G. A. Eckhardt.
