The decisive impulses for a comprehensive and above all exact topographical recording of Germany went in the middle of the 18th century. ==References====External links== In this context also the author of the present work, the brown-speaker, later Hanoverian engineer officer J. L. Hogrewe (Hogreve or Hogréfe); 1737-1814), who since 1767 has played a major role in the "Kurhanoverische Landesaufnahme". For the purpose of practical application, he chose "an imaginary field mark" to cover all practical questions. He deals with measuring the lines and angles, the special measurement, the transfer on paper and the calculation of the cards. In the last section he reports on the establishment of a measuring register (p. 185-221). "The posterity is H. known as 'soul' of the Kurhannoverische Landesaufnahme and as author excellent textbooks, mostly entitled 'practical instruction'."
