Wucherer (1780-1843), then professor of physics and technology in Freiburg, deals with statics, hydrostatics, aerodynamics, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics. In 1817/1818, he became known for his successful commitment to the continued existence of the University of Freiburg. In 1818 he founded the first "Polytechnische Institut" in Baden on his own responsibility. After his transfer to the Karlsruhe Gymnasium, he was commissioned in 1824 to plan a polytechnic institute there, whose founding rector he became in 1825 and from which the present TU emerged (cf. Weech II, p. 522 and M. Cantor in the ADB XXXXXIV, pp. 261ff.).
